5 Friday Favorites #5

Happy Friday! My favorites this week kinda turned into training gear i’ve been digging, hope you enjoy. I’ve been getting back to the grind of half marathon training, juggling a few new projects, pinning nutrition down and trying to get a ton of sleep. It’s been exhausting but so worth every day of it. Of course i’ll share with you along the way, bear with me as I get back into the flow of blogging!

73 Threads I’m now an ambassador for 73Threads shirts! These are super soft and super geared toward runners/triathletes/local beer drinkers, which makes me happy. Use my code “shesgoingthedistance” for 10% off at their website checkout. www.73threads.com

United We Run- love this one!

Garmin Vivoactive HR I won this from Jess @PaceofMe on Instagram, and i’m in love with it. It’s the first watch i’ve owned that sits on my wrist comfortably and reads an accurate heart rate. It can log indoor runs and indoor rowing which i will use a ton! And of course if I can customize the face to be Star Wars related it wins my heart.

KFT Sports Bras I don’t use these to run in, although i have. They are my Crossfit/cross training/everyday bras. They are so comfortable and pretty i can’t handle it. Every time they release a new color i have to have it! I’m not affiliated with them, but you can check them out at KFT Brands.

-Front/back for the Lighten Up bra – and yes for the record, i hang out in sports bras and sweats a lot.

Front/back of X-factor bra, 2 different colors. The jade, is my favorite color!

Brooks Launch 3s These shoes were my marathon shoes, the ones that carried me to a Boston Qualifier, so maybe it’s why I hold them close to my heart. Or maybe it’s because they are light without a ton of cushion and keep my ankles in place? They’re a great shoe. I have them in two colors and they have been the ones I reach for most often when I head outside.

Reebok Nanos I’m obsessed. I have 3 pairs and have only been doing Crossfit since August. haha. A big reason I love the Nanos – I can stand up in them for hours without my feet hurting. (remember i’m on my feet all day at the gym) So i use them while training clients, then I use them to cross train in. They are a 4mm drop shoe that keeps me comfortable and stable for any type of workout.

5 Friday Favorites! Vol. 2

Wednesday: Rest

Thursday: 7m MP tempo (1m warm up, 5 @ 8:00, 1m cool down), 30min TRX upper body + core

  1. Hector and the Search For Happiness – It’s on Netflix. Watch it. It made me laugh, cry & want to travel. It’s kinda like Eat, Pray, Love but not as girly.

2. LE’s first runs. She’s doing a run/walk mileage build up. 3 minutes of running, 3 walking just like anyone else getting started! So far she’s listening really well and staying right next to me. We did 2 walk/runs last week (both under 3 miles).

3. Self Timed Pics. I will do this more often on my long, slow runs when I notice places that may be photo worthy. I’ve always wanted more pictures of me actually running that do not cost $40 or have orange “PHOTO COPYRIGHT” all over it. If the self times is how I have to get them, so freaking be it!

5.  Oiselle Roga Shorts. I finally tried these and i love them. The size is a little large so i’ll size down the next time I buy them, but they’re long 4″ inseam (so no thigh rub), and I noticed in the pouring rain they never weighed down or got soaked with water. I’ve been searching for shorts for a while since Under Armour no longer makes my favorite kind. These seem to be a big contender!

I wore these shorts during a warmer run a week ago…

Tuesday: 3m easy 9:30/pace, 25min TRX legs, 3 x 6 toes to bar

Wednesday: 5m hill sprints (30 sec sprints x 6.5% 6:35/pace + 1 minute walking recoveries)

Thursday: Rest

I need a day where I share some things I’ve been into. Friday might just be the normal day. It’s either a “Flex Friday” a “Phone Dump Friday” so I think a “Friday Favorites” might find it’s way into the rounds here on The Distance.

  1. This article Carrots n’ Cake posted to her Facebook. It’s worth the short read and something i stress to my clients, especially the newbies. Take note, focus on getting stronger or faster, not the number on the scale! (click the picture for the article!)Screen Shot 2016-02-11 at 9.12.34 PM
  2. The People Vs. OJ Simpson – Cameron and I got hooked on all this true story crime entertainment since we spent a few weekends ago binging on Making a Murderer. Now he’s hooked on Serial, and i need to get started on that (I’m late i know!). The People Vs. OJ is INCREDIBLE. We were on the edge of our seat 5 minutes in and I cannot wait until next week’s episode. Screen Shot 2016-02-11 at 9.22.48 PM
  3. Kodiak Cakes Instant Pancake on the Go. I bought these for mornings i don’t have time for my usual eggs & veggies and I love this stuff.  It’s seriously a protein packed, ready in 1-minute, delicious way to start the morning. –It is a little pricey though, $1.99 each. I save them for my super early mornings which happen about once a week, so they’re worth it to have on hand.File_000 (65)
  4. Afternoon cuddles with LE. I joked on Instagram that we were having our afternoon couch cuddles & peanut butter, but honestly we do that almost everyday. Apples & PB and cuddles as I’m resting before heading back into work. File_000 (63)File_000 (64)
  5. Zooma Run Love Challenge Swag– Specifically the Feetures! running socks. I’ve seen these socks in stores before and laughed at $15 socks. I would NEVER pay that much. Well put a sock in it, cause I will now. These are the first socks i’ve ever worn that did not make my feet sweat or cause blisters on long runs. I will be purchasing more as soon! Also- i included a picture of the awesome sweatshirt Zooma sent. It will be a weekend staple, it’s so cute & cozy.
