Back At It

Monday: 20min upper body, 3m easy 9:00/pace

Last week I began running after 8 days completely off. I did an easy 3 miler on a gorgeous Sunday, because i couldn’t help myself and felt fantastic. Usually after a race some pain is nagging or lingering, but this time nothing! After a few more easy running days this past week I can honestly say I still have a spring in my step and do not feel at all worn down.

We finally got a chance to celebrate Cameron’s 26th birthday. Yes, I’m a cradle robber. But don’t worry, our mental capacity evens it out. I took him to a few special places, one of which is a favorite restaurant of ours called Jaleo, in Bethesda, Maryland.20151114_182125

We went here to celebrate an anniversary almost 3 years ago, and once in a while we do special occasions and splurge on all the decadent tapas..like the octopus, we were in love with this dish…and I thought mine had a cute face. I’m weird, get over it.

I haven’t decided what’s next. I’m sure i’m not the only runner at the end of their season that doesn’t know what distance to conquer next. I guess I haven’t felt this satisfied after a racing year to relax and enjoy a time away from a schedule. Not that i’m not thinking of running every second of the day, or wondering what marathon i’ll try to BQ or which half marathon I’ll attempt a 1:30… but it’s fun to consider all options. 🙂

Wednesday: 5 Rounds 500m row, 8 toes to bar, 10 single leg bosu burpees w/pushups, 20 walking lunges

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook It’s no surprise I turned 30 over the weekend! annnndd jumped out of a plane.. but i’ll get to that. My birthday month (can’t believe it turned into this, but it kinda did) started August 8th at a night game, Nationals vs. Rockies and they won! Towards the end of the game Cameron walked back to our seats holding cotton candy & a funnel cake. He didn’t know which one i’d want more, so he got both. That’s the way to treat a hungry runner :).

we got the crazy sugar faces on!

20150808_204528August 14th.. was where the real fun began. We went out late Friday night to see my favorite female comedian Iliza Shlesinger at the Arlington Drafthouse. If you haven’t seen her stand up, she has one or two specials on Netflix. She’s incredible and had us rolling all night. Plus she’s super fit, does Crossfit and has abs that won’t quit, so naturally i have a huge crush on her.

and of course I had to document that i, in fact, was wearing real girl clothes.

The next day, the 15th (my actual birthday) was our scheduled skydive. 3pm. To kill a little time, and nerves, I went out for a progressive run. I had to show you guys a picture because I thought it was super cool that my warm up mile was 8:15/pace on August 15th! How cool is that? And this was the first time in a while a progressive run went smoothly!

After a cool down mile with LE, a protein smoothie and a shower we headed out for the jump! DC Skydiving Center is located in Warrenton, Virginia about an hour and a half drive from us. It’s out in the country where you can see mountains and animals and all that fun stuff. The skydiving center itself is run out of this warehouse hangar type place and we got to watch the skydivers float on down as we waited.

29th Birthday!

My 29th birthday started out with an early morning 6 X 800s track workout. I ended up running around the street I started my running journey on. It’s almost a perfect mile loop which worked for an 800 interval and a recovery lap. When I first started running, about 7 years ago, the goal was always to try and make it down the street to the stop sign, which was a half mile.

not the stop sign, but a sign!

not the stop sign, but a sign in Indiana!

Trying to make it to the stop sign was always a struggle. This was back when running 1-2 miles without stopping was the hardest thing ever. It was so difficult to push past the sign and continue on. My pace used to be 12:30/mile and I never thought I’d be sprinting past that sign a few years down the road. I wish my future self could have told that sweaty, tired, past Cori that she gets a little faster, running gets easier and she actually will enjoy it 🙂

Each split I did the morning of my birthday was between 3:00-3:10 or 6:00-6:20 pace. Every time I passed that sign I felt so much more confident entering the last year of my 20s. I cannot wait to see how I rank as the oldest in the 25-29 age group throughout the year!

I spent the day with family, a carrot cake, my favorite pizza and a campfire with s’mores! I cannot tell you how much I’ve missed pizza from home. Nothing compares to it near me.

what a beaut!

I really soaked up time with a few people while I was out here and I can’t say enough how much I love all of them.  And campfires. I really love campfires.

Running while on vacation this time didn’t go terribly. I only missed a run or two and I’m planning on waking up early to squeeze in a long run before I take off. When I’m back into the normal routine of things this week i’m buckling down and 100% focusing on finishing marathon training like a beast. I’m getting excited!!!!!

clearly, i’m not the only one who enjoys S’mores!
